A Day in the Life of Anthony, a Seasoned Trucker

Let me tell you about  Anthony, a veteran truck driver with 20 years of experience behind the wheel. Most days his day starts at 4:30 am with a cup of black coffee and a thorough inspection of his trusty long-haul truck. 

He has been trucking solo for so many years, that you could say the long road is his home away from home.

Anthony has been through it all – many of the beautiful but treacherous mountain passes all around South Africa. From the sweltering heat of the Northern Cape and Namibia to the wet winter roads we have been experiencing lately. 

He’s seen fellow drivers come and go, but trucking has been in his blood all these years.

Today’s route takes him from Pretoria to Cape Town, a gruelling long-distance haul. 

Anthony has his eyes on the road and his ears tuned to fellow drivers about road conditions and traffic. 

He’s a master of his craft, knowing the road and its conditions and making sure to get his delivery done on time. 

Despite the long hours and physical toll, he wouldn’t trade his life for anything.

Anthony recalls one particularly brutal trip during a rainy storm in July. 

His truck’s batteries were put to the test as he navigated through cold rain and icy roads.

 “My batteries were the only thing that didn’t let me down,” he says. “I had to idle for hours in traffic, but they kept my heat and lights going strong. I made it to my destination in one piece, thanks to the good condition of my truck and those heavy-duty batteries.”
